4 August 2008Whitman is now in his adoptive home south of Boston with mom Anne Marie and his two new Afghan brothers. His progress over the past 7 days was incredible. Leash walking is "nothing" Whitman stated to the press when he did a rare appearance  at the New Jersey match and rescue gathering on Sunday. He even took part in the parade. Whitman loves everybody and has not met a stranger. His new mom was stunned over his beauty and immediate sweetness. (AS)

Saturday he left with Lisa Bryant to stay with her for a few days before moving in to his foster home. Whitman is still unsure of the thing called walking on a leash but with his favorite - a bully stick we could do magic. The funniest, happiest and hungriest in the crew. Tracy's favorite! Lisa states that Whitman still has walking issues. Hard on Lisa's back!:)

Dr. Ulrike Reinisch arrived early from CT and spent hours observing the dogs, particularly withdrawn Edgar and shivering Charlotte, to see which would benefit the most from her fostering and magical TLC .  Charlotte was chosen for a variety of reasons...

Another cheese and treat party as the fosters began to arrive.   Charlotte and Edgar (the wall flowers stayed in the background as more people came outside). Edgar began cheek puffing.

Anna fitted the nervous trio -Charlotte, Jane, Edgar with lure coursing jackets as anxiety wraps. Anna & Christina prepared the comfy crates crates with clouds of paper towels...

Jane turned Lisa's foster agreements into a bed.

I am missing them already...

Dramatic contrast between the way our precious pups looked in their crates the day they arrived and the day they left...

Gloriously groomed, lured by juicy bones and chicken breasts, haloed by Rescue Remedy spray, each happier Hound crated up willingly...

Cyrano left for Maryland, Charlotte for Connecticut, Dante, Whitman and Edgar with Lisa to Philly, Frost (Christina/Jules) and Jane (Sue) staying close by on LI...  (JA)

Whitman  has the true puppy emerging more and more - he continues to wiggle and wag and roll and wants to kind of play - he is so much happier now and the tail goes.  he will give you kisses!  he continues to turn over for belly rubs.     a little darling!!! (LR)

...I felt like Jane Goodall with cheese...Thurs, Edgar was a voyeur and non-participant...Whitman was partying on his own from a distance. Everyone had the happy look except for worried Edgar. By Friday, both boys had joined in the fun... On Friday, Charlotte was romping with the gang but the only one too nervous to partake of the cheese and liver treats...Ironically she had made a pig of herself on Thursday. Jane is adept at finding open run gates and moving the party inside with her siblings.. Everyone "takes food" with manners. (JA)

Whitman is a true lover puppy. Wiggles around and wags that tail. He seemed calmer, especially since he was in sleepy mode. (CW)

22 July 2008Whitman is a baby and just wants lots of attention.  The tail started going the second I walk to his cage and started talking to him.  He loves belly rubs. (JW)

Whitman really digs those belly rubs.  They are truly amazing  .... with all they have been through - still, not one ounce of aggression from anyone  -   everyone of them is very, very sweet and very, very beautiful. they do want the love and interaction.

We worked on clipping down young man Whitman  -  he was a little wiggly guy - but a good little boy ....   very sweet   .......   he wasn't nearly as badly matted as Dante but still had his share -     also did a rough clip on him - after bath can be clipped smooth  .........  he will appreciate the lack of mats ......(LR)

21 July 2008leash training!  Whitman screamed! but with harness he was better.  (AS)
20 July 2008"Whitman" still has a matted, cottony  puppy coat and whiskers (just like his LI poet namesake). Wouldn't come out of the crate but did accept petting and cookies while in there.. Tiny bit head shy but then very accepting of being touched all over his body...Inhaled chicken and rice and finished afternoon dryfood.. Sweet, Beautiful face ... Incredible eyes ... (JA)
19 July 2008VERY sweet and very pretty.   The black masked red is maybe 15 - 18 months - approx...there is no aggression whatsoever ..... the ordeal that they have endured and they are darlings.  the red also - a bit more withdrawn - just a bit - allows petting and likes chicken,  is perplexed obviously but I think will bounce back quickly and be a super family member!!!  (LR)
