31 August 2008O'Keefe has been adopted & his new moniker is Ollie!
28 August 2008O'Keefe was neutered two weeks ago, but he had a more difficult recovery from surgery - he worried his stitches a bit and became a conehead for a bit, but he now seems to be on the road to recovery.  He took a full walk this morning and was eager for play and breakfast.  (CO)
11 August 2008O'Keefe had a bath today - his coat had very little matting.  He continues to love attention and actively seek it.  He is enjoying his walks and even barked at the Neo son that he was terrified of his first week here, so his confidence is growing as is his stamina. He doesn't play as much as Joy but he does enjoy investigating toys. (CO)

2 August 2008O'Keefe is a sweetie - he always greets me at the gate.  He is gaining in stamina - his walks have lengthened to help him with that. He is starting to take the lead on the walk not just following one of the girls. He enjoys the toys and really loves to be touched and talked to.  He walks easily on a lead although strange objects do disconcert him. These guys lived in a rural area and need more exposure to urban life, but when he is scared he does put his trust in the human he is with and can be talked past the object. Last night Bob and Charlotte had a party and O'Keefe happily worked anyone who came to the play yard to say hello.  He would be good with a family and other dogs. He loves interaction. (CO)
27 July 2008O'Keefe was heartworm negative today - he already had all his shots in New Mexico.  He is growing a bit more fun loving by the day and was the one who finally got the broken biscuit piece out of the kong they all discovered today. (CO)

26 July 2008

O'Keefe had his bath and grooming.  He was in the best shape of all of them and has kept his full coat. We believe he is younger than the 18 months listed on his kennel card - he hasn't really saddled yet, but some of the fuzz on top was removed.  His walking on the leash is great unless he spots Bob and Charlotte's Neo son.  The alpha male he was kenneled with in the shelter left a lasting impression - he tries to run away from this black male about his age who is at least 25 yards away.  Today when we had all six out for a walk Charlotte and Bob's neighbor was out at his mail box. O'Keefe was the only one who didn't want to go over and say hello (the guy did have on a black t shirt) but when the others did he joined in. What a sight to see six afghans out of a shelter nicely greeting someone new.  O'Keefe is a sweet boy who was a little bullied and doesn't want it to happen again. O'Keefe is a "people dog"  even in the short time he is greeting everyone and he loves to be touched.  He walks nicely on the lead now and his tail is inching up on the walks.  At the shelter he was in a run with an older more alpha dog and he was a little cowed, but we see him relaxing more - but he really likes heading back to his new found security in the play yard!  All three young ones are playing more - this morning we had to pick up numerous bags they had found and happily shredded!  Guess it is official - they are back to having fun!

22 July 2008
O'Keefe is a domino male approximately 18 months old.
Both O'Keefe and Taos, the other male in Tucson, seemed to have better care then the bitches.  They are our last grooming priority because we believe we can keep both their coats and they do not have any of the excrement issues that the other four all had.  O'Keefe is a very sweet people oriented dog.  He was a little shy at first but now that he knows the reception he will get he comes right up for petting. He has never been on a lead and took his first walk this morning - he made progress, but will need more work
