26 October 2008Adoption Pending!  (BH)
12 September 2008Her former owner released all the dogs in the shelter (though Nellie wasn't there this included her) and the shelter contacted Charlotte to let her know Nellie is now released to AHCA and available for adoption.  Hopefully a home can be found soon. (CO)
28 August 2008Nellie has been placed in a foster home for individual attention and is unavailable for adoption at this time (CO).
11 August 2008Nellie has totally recovered from her surgery and continues to be the resident love bug - always coming over for some affection or just to see what is going on.  She has gotten much stronger on her walks and really seems to enjoy them. She charms everyone who meets her - she is such a petite sweetie! (CO)

2 August 2008Nellie had successful surgery Tuesday - she was spayed, her teeth were cleaned, and what turned out to be a very low hanging hernia (instead of the suspected tumor) was removed.  She is recovering nicely and is going for short walks - she does enjoy getting out.  She remains a complete and total love bug.  Last night she worked Charlotte and Bob's guests for affection like she had been partying since she was a puppy.  She thoroughly enjoys human contact, soft spots to snooze, and a nice walk!  (CO)
27 July 2008Nellie really worked the kong today trying to get the biscuit out.  She also quite enjoyed both her walks and her stamina is growing day by day.  She is very attentive to all her new humans and love to be talked to, touched, and be at the front of the line when there are cookies. (CO)

I definitely think this photo captures Nellie.  Nellie is enjoying her new little couch in her siesta suite - Bob is trying to get a picture of that!  She is a little love bug - coming over quite frequently while to ask for attention by gently resting her head on my leg. She loves her walks and is using herself more each day as she gets use to not have so much stuff between and in her toes!  (CO)

Here is an update on her - no pictures how many can you take of her napping!
Nellie had her offending dew clew removed yesterday, her feet  checked, and was heartworm negative in her vet visit yesterday.  She is scheduled for a teeth cleaning, fatty tumor removal and neutering early next week.  She stood quietly and patiently for examination just as she did when we shaved her down and cleaned the debris from her feet.  Her walking and trotting are improving as she gets use to no nails or embedded crap in her feet.  She enjoys her walks and loves a soft cushion.  She is careful around the other dogs probably because her mobility was compromised and may need a situation with only one or two others - with plenty of couch space!!!!!  She absolutely charms everyone who meets her and loves to be touched, petted and told what a pretty girl she is.
22 July 2008They don't come any sweeter than Nellie - she was very happy to have a clean bed and a warm hand caressing her when she got to Tucson. She has been on a leash before but it has been a long time - she is a bit rusty but will be one of the first to complete this task!  Around her next was a cobbled together jewel chain with a little charm - faith, hope and love on a heart - so she was loved. We had to remove the chain because of sharp edges, rust, and excrement, but she has lots of faith, hope and love in her future anyway.  It appears likely she was bred multiple times. At first we thought she was much older - she seemed to walk slowly as if her joints were painful, but today we shaved her down and found out why.  She had so much excrement matted into her feat with burrs, twigs, and hard stuff painfully stuffed between all her toe pads. Even sadder was one nail had grown over another and turned completely into her skin.  One dew claw looked like a spiral pasta - literally made three complete circles.  The other dew claw had been ripped out - just fragments and a swollen area remaining - she was lucky that healed.  We were able to clear her feet of all matter and cut her nails back. Her feet were to be soaked in her bath later today and she will see the vet about the nails, her splayed feet, the dew claws, and what appears to be a fatty tumor. After all this she was taken for a short walk and she was walking much easier - she even trotted. She will make someone a darling companion - and deserves the best for all she has been through!
