12 September 2008Joy is living in Florida now, and doing GREAT in her new home!
28 August 2008Joy is much stronger than when she came.  She can walk and play much more than when she first arrived.  She is an eager greeter now.  She has been spayed and recovered nicely. The swelling in her elbows is going down. (CO)
11 August 2008Joy has been to the dog park this week.  She has a drooling problem in the car and the trips will help with these issues.  She also had another bath and grooming - she was very good on the table and her coat kept up fairly well between groomings.  She is engaging in increasing amounts of puppy play and is beginning to develop a bit more muscle.  Here is Joy on the grooming table. 2 August 2008Joy is happily being a puppy - she loves the kong and other toys. This morning she squirted out of the play yard to the patio area.  She played a nice game of afghan tag with me, until she turned herself in to go back to the play yard and the others.  She was disappointed the Neo son wasn't out in his side yard - the puppies have been anxious to meet and play but they are still apart.  The fluid in her elbows is slowly reducing - for anyone not experienced with this it is a highly manageable issue - we are trying the pants, will move on to cold pads, and just having a soft spot to sleep and hang out has already made a difference! 27 July 2008Joy got her rabies shot and was heartworm negative.  Everyone one (Joy, O'Keefe, Kiva and Taos went to complete all shots and heartworm) was very good at the vets - Charlotte said better than hers would be. Joy drooled in the crate travelling to and from, however, something she also did on the trip to Tucson. Today was a real play day for them as they really had fun with each other and the toys with Joy definitely in the middle of it. While her stamina on walks is improving she still does not have the relentless energy of the typical afghan her age. (CO)

26 July 2008Charlotte and Bob are trying to get photos of the very large hydroderms(fluidy sacs)  that this little girl has on both elbows. Charlotte has the pants(?) that she will need to wear to bring the fluid down.  Meanwhile Joy is having fun in the play yard and going for walks. Yesterday she approached a stranger and even trusted us enough to follow the loud noisy trash barrel down the driveway. (CO)

24 July 2008Joy continues to get her puppyhood back.  She has discovered squeaky toys and biscuits and is romping with the two boys in the play yard.  She walks easily on the lead and is very social with the other dogs and us.  Her trust is growing for the new people around her and she is enjoying a soft cushion and personal attention.  She needs some muscle tone - she doesn't have much stamina but walks and play sessions should take care of that.

22 July 2008Joy was the youngest one left at the shelter when we arrived. She was listless and withdrawn and must have been one of those kept inside - her coat literally was coated lengthwise with excrement, and she was clearly confused by so many different environments.  A romp in a play yard, time to stretch out with the others, and a bath got her tail wagging.  She is starting to be curious about toys and the desert critters. She has been introduced to the lead and is doing well going for walks with already trained Afghans in the nearby neighbor.  She is both a beauty and a sweetheart and hopefully will soon have her puppy joy entirely  back and be the Joy in someone's life.
