29 August 2008Cubby is adopted!  He will go to his new home in Illinois in October.  This is very appropriate because he is a Cubs fan (he doesn't know that, but we pretend).  Cubby has blossomed in the past week and is developing confidence!

Adoption Pending!

6 August 2008

Cubby is showing great progress.  His social and emotional behavior shows that he is getting used to human attention.  He is making good eye contact and coming up to us for attention.  He is no longer spending all his time alone upstairs;  he is spending half the time on the couch downstairs and is coming outside with everyone else.  I think he’s potty trained, too!  And he is drinking water from the water dish, rather than us having to take a bowl over to him.  He really enjoys chew chips.  We think he’s a smart boy.  Yesterday he was actually playing with our older Golden Retriever! (MR)

1 August 2008Cubby is a special needs fellow. His left front leg may be in need of surgery. The xrays have yet to be analyzed by our Houston specialist. He can run and climb stairs both up and down, though. He eats very well. He was water deprived and we must keep a bowl of water within his sight at all times. He is really a couch potato. He is alert, very sweet and likeable.

It is likely that he received little or no attention from humans. He craves attention. He is a very good watch dog. We do not have to kennel him. No accidents in the house. This morning at 6am he wanted out to pee. This is excellent progress as last week he was drinking his own urine. He has come a very long way. He is a very special and sweet little boy. He loves to just lay in your lap. He has a way of looking at you that makes you melt.

He also loves to chew on chew chips. He loves soft places - he may not have had a soft place to lay ever. (Foster Home)

This is Cubby.  He is a young boy from the New Mexico rescue.  He was initially placed in a new home, but was surrendered back to rescue.

He has a pre-existing injury to his leg that is very painful for him.  He tries to walk on three legs, with his sore leg raised as much as possible, but sometimes he has to step on it.  His xrays show that he needs surgery to repair the injury: it won't heal on it's own. Cubby will be getting a second opinion soon.

The surgery is expected to coost between $1500-$2500 dollars, but may run more if there are complications.  He will also need follow-up care for this pre-existing injury.

We have designated him a "Special Needs" boy, and are raising funds to help him receive the medical care he needs.  He is in foster care near Houston, and is looking for a permanent, forever home. (BS)
